If you have a passion for Skiing or Snowboarding, enjoy sharing your passion with others and have great customer service skills. Then taking some training with us can set you up for success in completing level 1 and 2 certification through CASI (Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors) or the CSIA (Canadian Ski Instructors Aliance). Who Should Take This Course?
You should take this course if you love to ski or snowboard, and have a desire to introduce new students to skiing or snowboarding. You should be confident and comfortable both communicating and demonstrating in front of a group.
Am I Ready?
The Level 1 Instructor standards require you to pass both riding and teaching evaluations. In order to help you achieve success on the level 1 course, we suggest you take the following steps in preparation:
Spend time working as an assistant/apprentice instructor, in order to see a beginner lesson in action.
Book a lesson with our current Level 1 Evaluator to get feedback on your riding ability in relation to the technical standard.
Complete the Level 1 course .

Potential Wage earned once certified - $20.00 per hour starting

Able to demonstrate comfortable and safe riding skills on intermediate terrain
Description of Apprenticeship program:
This Program is for any one who intends to take their level 1 instructors course and would like a test of the job prior to taking the course.

You will be provided with the schedule for the season and given opportunity to come out and shadow a number of lessons and work with multiple different instructors that will assist you in preparing for the level 1 course and exam. *this program is intended for individuals that will be applying to work at the hart snow school after becoming certified

Description of Level 1 Pre course:
The level 1 pre-course will help prepare you for the CASI and CSIA level 1 course.
Our 1 day Pre course will introduce you to:
The CASI and CSIA riding standard
The level 1 "mandatory maneuvers"
Terrain that you should expect to ride on the level 1 course
An overview of the teaching standard,
tips and tricks to be successful in the teaching portion of the course
This course will be taught by a level 3 instructor who will provide feedback and will give you instruction on how to better prepare for your level 1.

The Level 1 Instructor certification course is open to strong intermediate skiers and snowboarders, aged 15 years and older. Candidates on the Level 1 Course will spend time exploring technique and teaching methods across a variety of venues, both on-snow (up to and including intermediate terrain) and during indoor presentations.
The Level 1 course is an introductory course, designed to give successful candidates the skills necessary to begin their role as a new instructor in the industry. Beginner teaching methods, understanding of basic riding technique, as well as lesson planning and effective communication skills will be addressed.
Candidates will receive coaching on their skiing and snowboarding, as well as feedback on their teaching skills, with the goal of reaching the Level 1 standard in both of these areas. They will also receive suggestions and strategies for long-term development. The successful candidate is certified to teach beginner skiers and snowboarders up to the Novice Turn level.
The Level 1 certification is a pre-requisite for the Level 2 Instructor certification.
Course Duration:
3 days totalling a minimum of 18 hours (including evaluations).
